Beyond Today Programme

What Does Beyond Today Cover?

Three parts each with 3 elements. Each part has a theme and includes practical tips, skills and ideas that you can build into your everyday. This is personal, practical and can really help you be a better version of you!

Part One: Looking after you!

  1. Looking after our mental fitness is as important as our physical fitness. This introduction will explain why and then delves into the benefits of positive emotion and recovery for getting through difficulty times.
  2. Being versus doing The ‘to do’ list is never ending, right? Being busy has become a mantra for ‘good living’, but is it? Here we discuss ‘being’ – getting back to who we are as people, as individuals and building in time to just ‘be’. The science tells us we should.
  3. Emotions and Energy Our emotions are a source of energy. Being happy, motivated and pumped is where we need (and want) to be at certain moments in our lives. This element draws on principles used in sports psychology to help be at their peak in the moment of competition. The key is recovery to not only prevent burnout but to fill our bucket in just the right way.

Part Two: Mental Fitness

  1. Mental Resilience – We all know that having a glass half full – well just feels better. We also know that pretending life isn’t tough when it is – doesn’t help. This session focuses in on the link between thoughts, feeling and behaviour as a critical step to understanding why we respond the way we do.
  2. Breaking The Cycle – This element explores how our brain can make mistakes leading us to jump to conclusions or trying to second guess ourselves. You will consider a more sophisticated sense of self, recognizing what might be getting in the way for you so you can problem solve more effectively.
  3. Balancing – Ever had those times when you start to tell yourself ‘the worst thing ever is going to happen’? Those ideas get bigger and bigger in your mind, snowballing, draining your energy because you are full of anxiety. This session provides a simple and effective way to deal with this, outing you back in control.

Part Three: Human Connection

  1. Communication – We are social animals and our connections with other people really matter. The way we communicate and express ourselves is the often the difference between harmony and – well the opposite of harmony! When our communication fails with those we love and care about it can really hurt and speaking up can be hard. This element will help you have the conversations you want to/need to in the best way.
  2. Strengths Each of us is unique, special and amazing in ways we often never had the chance to explore. Once we are grown up – we often lose the opportunities to think about what we are good at because life, work, family gets in the way. Any 2 people have a 1 in 350,000 chance of having the same top strengths. This element will explain more.
  3. Praise and Compassion We remember criticism yet we respond to praise. The words we use can help or hinder – us and those around us. Psychologists have long studied the most effective ways to use praise, and in doing so encourages compassion in ourselves and for other people. This final element will share practical tips to more effective use of words.

What people say about Beyond Today

There were some real lightbulb moments – I need to put the oxygen mask on myself before I can help others. Lucy gets straight to the point on easy steps to combat negative emotions and being able to cope when we feel overwhelmed. Meditation, breathing, tapping – just wasn’t for me. Being on the go all the time, Lucy has given me practical short exercises that I can do on the school run or when cooking to make sure I am looking after myself, feel strong and keep those negative emotions at bay. Daniela, 45 – Mum of 2, Morden

Marie, 41, mum of 3

Beyond Today not only provides useful and informative content in short digestible videos, but the programme also offers listeners practical advice and guidance on activities and actions you can take advantage of in day to day life in order to improve mental wellbeing.

I found the course gave me time to think about how I interact with people and be more mindful of how other people influence my decisions, and not always in a way that helps me. Sajid, 28, Business Coordinator, Hertfordshire

Lucy is warm and experienced. The ideas are so simple and yet so powerful. Aanya, 32, mum of 4, Toronto

I am a pessimistic person and can get very anxious. Sometimes I feel I am not up to things – this taught me that I actually can. It’s really been life changing. Mick, 28, Pharmacist, Oldham

I’ve never thought about myself in this way. This programme makes so much sense, every single thing covered in each element is very practical and real. Kiara, 22, Events, Manchester

I feel like I have read a really good self-help book without the effort. Marie-Aurelie, 40, mum of 3, Morden

This felt like a really good chat, with ideas that are about real life. I would recommend women of all ages (and men too) doing Beyond Today. It covers important things and I really enjoyed it. Lauren, 30, HR Officer, Bedford

I would recommend this to everyone. So simple, so real and just the boost I needed. Sara, 28, Receptionist, Ontario
